Electrical design drawings in Kingston upon Thames
Kingston is a borough of family houses with long gardens, and the work we see is extensions, garden rooms, heat pumps and solar roofs. We prepare electrical design drawings in Kingston upon Thames with the circuits, lighting and renewable equipment drawn to the details the council's validation list asks for. How we work on electrical design drawings
Four steps from first call to approval.

Enquiry and constraints check
We check the property against conservation areas, listed status, Article 4 directions, tree preservation orders, flood zone and planning history. We choose the right route and send a fixed quote.
Measured survey
We survey the house on one datum: rooms, levels, boundaries, drains, trees and the neighbours' windows that the 45° and 25° tests depend on.
Building regulations
Technical drawings are coordinated with the structural engineer's calculations, the drainage and the planning conditions.
Approval and hand-over
Building control approval, then a next-steps pack covering the commencement notice, party wall timing and CIL.
Free redraws until approval. Every drawing set is checked independently, and the checker is never the person who drew it.

What the council's list says about electrical design drawings in Kingston upon Thames
Kingston's Validation Local List is specific about equipment that has an electrical side. Any application involving solar panels or air source heat pumps must include existing and proposed Renewable Energy Sections drawn at scales of Sections at 1:10 or 1:20, showing how high the technology stands above the roof or ground. Our electrical sheets are drawn from the same model, so the roof section and the cable route agree.
New homes meet a different rule. A Water Consumption Statement is required wherever new residential accommodation is created, setting mains use at 105 l/person/day (with a small allowance for external use). That is a plumbing figure, but the electrical design is tied to it through heated water: a heat-pump cylinder, an immersion backup and a shower pump all sit on circuits we schedule.
Larger schemes meet a third rule: an energy assessment and overheating statement for Majors only; dynamic overheating modelling to CIBSE. A householder extension is below it, but a block of flats is above it, and the modelling then depends on lighting and appliance loads that our schedule records.

Local figures for Kingston upon Thames
| Measure | Value | Period | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Applications involving renewable technologies (solar panels, air source heat pumps etc.) need existing and proposed Renewable Energy Sections at 1:10 or 1:20 showing the technology height above roof or ground. | Sections at 1:10 or 1:20 | — | kingston.gov.uk, Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames Validation Local List (February 2024), p.22 |
| Water Consumption Statement required for all applications creating new residential accommodation: mains water use of 105 litres or less per head per day (excluding up to 5 litres external use). | Energy assessment and overheating mitigation statement is required for all major applications: follow the London Plan energy hierarchy (SI 2), heating hierarchy (SI 3), include dynamic overheating modelling using CIBSE guidance (SI 4) taking account of Approved Document O limits, EUI and space heating demand, and be submitted at application stage, not by condition. | Majors only; dynamic overheating modelling to CIBSE | — | kingston.gov.uk, Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames Validation Local List (February 2024), p.52-55 |

Detached and semi-detached houses, long gardens and heavy loads
61.5 per cent of Kingston households live in a house, and 60.9 per cent are owner-occupiers. Domestic gardens cover 30.9 per cent of the land, and that is where the work goes: garden offices, studios, outdoor kitchens and charge points on side driveways.
The consumer unit of an inter-war house is often a small one, with few spare ways, so a kitchen extension that adds an induction hob, an oven, an underfloor circuit and a heat pump can exceed what the unit offers. We tally loads, show a replacement unit where it is needed and keep a spare way for the charger. When the household also adds a solar array, we place the inverter, isolator and generation meter.
For outbuildings we draw the supply as a separate circuit with its own protective device, an armoured cable at a marked depth and a local isolator. The route is dimensioned from the house, so the groundworker digs once.
Heritage, Green Belt and visible items
The borough has 28 conservation areas and 163 listed building entries, and 17 per cent of it is covered by Green Belt polygons. Most electrical work disappears into walls, but an external heat pump, a solar array or a charger on a front wall can be refused or conditioned if it is badly sited.
In Green Belt areas a garden building is judged on its size and use, and a supply cable is rarely the issue. In conservation areas a visible meter box or light fitting is. Our architectural drawings in Kingston upon Thames set out the designations and the borough's Residential Design SPD.
Heat pumps, solar and the protective devices behind them
Many Kingston clients ask for a heat pump or a solar array at the same time as an extension, so we draw both as part of the same electrical system. The heat pump gets its own circuit with a local isolator, and the solar inverter is placed where it can be reached, ventilated and labelled for firefighters.
A battery adds another layer. It needs its own protection, a clear position away from escape routes and a note for the installer on what the consumer unit must accommodate. Our schematic shows all of it in one place, which is also what the council's section drawings need to agree with.
Part P, lighting and the charge point
Notifiable work must be certified within 30 days. Lighting must reach 75 lumens per circuit watt now and 105 later, and a new dwelling's charge point must offer at least 7 kW. We build all three into the schedule.
Heat pumps and solar panels bring their own paperwork, so our sheets sit beside the M&E drawings and the building regulations drawings in Kingston upon Thames. The electrical design drawings hub lists the full service.

Questions
Does Kingston need a drawing of my solar panels?
Yes. The validation list asks for existing and proposed Renewable Energy Sections at scales of Sections at 1:10 or 1:20, showing the height of the equipment.
What water-use limit applies to new homes in Kingston?
A Water Consumption Statement must show 105 l/person/day, excluding a small external allowance.
Can an old consumer unit handle a new extension?
Often not. We total the loads, and show a replacement with spare ways where needed.
